Is running on a treadmill important for kids to lose weight?

Contrary to popular belief, the body of a child is extremely strong. But then again it all depends on how that child was raised. Twenty years ago we didn’t have the advanced technology we have today. Back in the 90s, kids would spend hours playing outside with friends, running, and playing games. Injuries happened all the time, but when kids are young their bones can recover pretty fast. Fast-forward to today, we reach an area where kids don’t play hide and seek anymore; at least not in real life.

In the US, the obesity rate among kids has skyrocketed in the last 5 years. One of the main culprit: advanced technological gadgets and smart devices. Losing weight is not tougher than ever. Parents are busy and they don’t have time to look after their kids; they most likely have a 9 to 5 job, meaning that they can’t keep an eye to see what their kids are eating at every hour of the day.

Running is a healthy physical activity that does miracles to people’s overall health. In a child’s case, running strengthens the bones and keeps the mind and body active and lively. Why is it so important for kids to engage in a workout routine?

Better metabolism

Unless you allow your child to have French fries for breakfast and McDonald’s for dinner, your child won’t gain weight. Exercise is just as important as eating healthy. The bad news is most kids are picky eaters. They don’t like vegetables or fruit, and always want to be rewarded with something sweet during the day.

Allowing your child to indulge in too many sweets may trigger a wealth of health concerns, including obesity, heart problems, diabetes, and more. But if your child works out and have an active lifestyle, that won’t happen. A healthy mind and body from a younger age helps kids grow up beautifully. They’ll have a metabolism that works properly, and they’ll begin enjoying an active lifestyle.

Losing weight – does running on a treadmill help?

No parents wants their child to be overweight. And yet, it happens more often than you think. Neglecting their daily diet may lead to obesity; and forcing them to run on a treadmill from a very young age is not the smartest way to increase their self-esteem. Losing extra weight at a fragile age can be extremely difficult, for both the child and the parents. But if you care about their health, you have to start by changing your own routine first.

Buying a treadmill and waiting for them to start using it is not a very smart idea. But if they see you use, they might be willing to give it a shot. There are all kinds of treadmills you can purchase, starting from the most basic models, all the way to the most advanced that feature LCD screens and Wi-Fi. Walking and running is one of the fastest and most efficient ways of getting back in shape. Although if you want to see results, you have to change your child’s diet, too.

Diet changes and exercise – the benefits

Proper dieting and regular exercise are key ingredients to helping your child lose weight. However, kids often don’t understand why they are no longer allowed to eat what they want. It’s tough to convince them because they don’t have the mental capacity to fully grasp that extra weight puts their health in danger. But running on a treadmill doesn’t have to be that excruciating for them. Find a way to make the process fun and enjoyable. Promise them that at the end of their routine, they’ll get a slice of pizza, or even two (make the pizza in the house, use healthier ingredients, and lots of veggies).

Having a treadmill in the house doesn’t guarantee that your child will jump on it and start running. But it can be an activity that renders results because it strengthens glucosamine levels in the bones, thus increasing elasticity in cartilages. They might do so in the beginning to see what everything is all about; but it will be treated just like a new toy, which in two weeks will be forgotten. Instill a sense of responsibility in your kid if you want him to love weight, and focus on proper dieting and outdoor activities, too.
